As I’ve mentioned earlier this week, Monty has opened the bottom cover of my mattress spring box and now use it as a hammock. It’s usually where I find him sleeping when I come home from work. Yesterday I decided to take a picture of him inside it…completely forgetting to turn off the flash, this is how it turned out:

Monty inside my mattress spring box. Blinded by the light!

He’s either closing his eyes tight from the sudden flash of light or he’s clenching his bum…really, really hard.

Last night, Bryce stepped on a tooth coloured shard. We looked at each other worried, remembering that Monty has tartar and the vet mentioned that orange cats are more prone to dental problems. Thinking Monty has chipped a tooth, we kept trying to pull his lips up to see his teeth. I should note that neither of us know how his teeth looked before, so really, it was moot. He wasn’t acting strange or in pain and he was eating normally. In fact, he picked out and ate his dental food (they’re prescribed as feline dental food because they’re harder to bite down on and are coated with tooth-cleaning substance for cats) before his dry food. It didn’t add up!

We searched the internet (because it has the answer to everything), we thought back if either of us has accidentally bashed him in the face (can’t remember so it must not have happened), we thought about emailing his vet…essentially, Bryce and I were freaking out that Monty has chipped a tooth. Then we remembered dinner.

Bryce and I had bucatini pasta with rosé sauce. I don’t have a deep pot so I had to snap the pasta in half. I carelessly grabbed bunches of pasta and snapped them while I watched TV.

So let our experience serve as a warning. Don’t buy cat teeth coloured pasta.

Unlike the family cats, Chubbles and Jango, I’m thankful that Monty shows no desire to make a run for outside world. In fact, other than sniffing my plants and leaning on top of pots to see what’s on the other side of the plant, he’s not interested in anything outside my apartment. I can leave the patio door wide open without having to worry.

While I get ready for work in the morning, I leave it open so he can lie on sun beams and have some fresh air. Luckily, he doesn’t wander farther than the door frame and I can see him at all times. He’s perfectly content with a little breeze blowing on his face. Every minute or so, I call him and he’ll meow back at me in response to assure me that he’s still there.

Monty in the mornings basking in the morning sun and fresh air.

    Hi Monty,

I am wondering if you have ever actually had the furminator tested out on you? My mommy & daddy keep threatening to get the furminator for me & my grandparents puppy… Does it hurt?

PS. I think we could be best friends

    Thanks,
    Moby

    Hi Moby,

Jenn picked up the Furminator from a pet store on Oak+16th Ave called Pet Food ‘N More. There was a cat version (purple handle) that was the same price ($46.99) as the “small” version of the original (blue handle). She asked the salesperson if there’s a real difference other than the handle colour, the lady said as far as she’s concerned they’re the same thing but someone earlier that day came in and raved about the cat one. Jenn bought the one made for cats. (This, of course, is all speculation because I wasn’t there.)

I was brushed all over twice to make sure there are absolutely no knots in my fur. Jenn then used the Furminator and it picked up a lot more undercoat! She could probably have picked up more but there was a warning to not put too much pressure since the end can irritate the skin so she basically just grazed it lightly on me. Afterwards my fur was a lot softer and it didn’t seem to “clump together” as much. It also picked up bits of dead skin and dandruff that I have near my bum (from not getting groomed as often at the shelter). It worked just like it claimed on the website!

Anyway, I recommend it since it picks up my undercoat even big slicker brushes doesn’t after 2 rounds. (Have you seen THE box of fur photo?!) It’s well worth the investment if you have tons of undercoat and it’s uncomfortable in this hot weather OR (as I suspect in your case) you hate getting brushed often (because using the Furminator cuts down on having to get brushed everyday and shedding fur).

I also think we could be best friends. We should go out for kitty milk. Call me.

    Cheers,
    Monty
